Re: Your OS
Ubuntu Linux, Version 8.10, 32-Bit
My computer is picky as far as Linux goes. I've only just managed to make it relatively stable. :/
Also, I should've installed a 64-bit version, but I didn't. lol.

Re: Your OS
I am using Windows XP SP2. Pretty much the greatest OS in the world! When I hear the word "Laptop" the first thing that comes to mind is "XP" =D

I second that. I have same thing only a more advanced computer overall...I use Leopard/OSX. Toon keeps on looking for downloads to make his Vista computer look like a mac. XD

Snow Leopard looks promising, but it's just too bad that you can't get OSX on a PC.
And I only say that last part because, from what I hear, The Pirate Bay got landed with the fed's banhammer. It was possible to get OSX before, but I'm not aware of any other places to get the torrent.

FATALITY.
Yeah, OSX is a lot better than Windows. Only problem is that Mac hardware sucks big time, and since you "can't install it on non-Mac hardware", you have to make the decision between a good computer or a good OS.

Re: Your OS
Great. Now I need to COMPLETELY rethink what kind of computer im going to get later this year. This is going to be a year long headache I guess .-.
Re: Your OS
It all depends on what you want to use the computer for. For Hyper-Red, I would suggest AlienWare or whatever it's called because she loves to play games. Macs are built for media more than anything else, which is what I need considering that I do tons of artwork. Microsoft is made for office/business, but is pretty much all-around. I have no idea what Linux does, ask AlbinoWolf. XP

*Takes gloves off*
TL;DR of the TL;DR Section: If you do some work, you can make it do whatever you want.
TL;DR: If you don't mind doing a little work, compensating some programs (and/or the latest version for PCs, since some Linux programs are back a few versions) and working with Open Source Software, Linux is a nice option. Plus, the system in itself is an anti-virus. :P
Verbose:
Depends on what kind of Linux you're looking for. All flavors of it require work, but not only are there countless tutorials on what to do (almost all flavors have their own Wiki, which explains everything. Step. By. Step.), but there are also multiple of these flavors (which are really just variations) to choose from.
The only viruses that exist for Linux were ones that test it's ability to resist viruses. And if you have a compatability layer (see below), the only way that can get infected is if you run a virus manually. I mean, really, right clicking it and opening it with that program.
Most of the programs that Linux uses are open source, like OpenOffice (Microsoft Office) and GIMP (Photoshop). However, just like OSX, you can install "Compatibility Layers", which allow you to use Microsoft Programs (.exe files) to a certain degree. It's all updated by the community, so unless you do some heavy programming, you have to wait on the community and their priorities. Also, you don't download much from the internet, since a lot of it is managed in Package managers. Which are basically just lists of programs that you can install. And you really can't fuck up your programs unless you enter commands in manually, since mostly everything is automated in the package manage.
On the bright side, you get mutiple desktops, so you can stretch out all your windows in more room. Honestly, I miss that feature so much when I go back into Windows. Also, you can either have your windows tabbed across the bottom (a la Windows), forced into a drop-down menu, or you can install a dock to both open programs and show what you have open (A la OSX).
PS: Ashley, if you're going to ask nub questions on the Forumotion boards, at least ask if you can make a hide tag for your forum for posts like this. And yeah, I saw all of those posts. (Ask me first next time you have a question like that.)

Windows Vista! I like it a lot but I still think Leopard/OSX is much better.
